Boat Details

The Nicholson 26 like the Contessa 26 is an iconic british built boat.The Nicholson being bigger volume and therefore more comfortable with the motion of a much bigger boat. The long traditional keel and deep safe cockpit make her anideal coastal cruiser, quite capable of going further afield for themore intrepid. "Ladybird" has had many upgrades and been well maintained.

Hull, Deck & Keel

  • GRP hull built by Halmatic and fitted out by Camper & Nicholson in 1967. Refit carried out by Camper & Nicholson in 1981.
  • Repainted 2015 - Royal Blue.
  • GRP Deck and coachroof - Repainted 2015.
  • Anti-Osmosis system by West Epoxy, 1994.

  • Traditional encapsulated keel with transome hung rudder.
  • Tiller steering.

Deck Equipment

  • Stainless steel pulpit, stanchion posts and pushpit with double guard wires.
  • Central foredeck mooring cleat with fairleads, 2 midship mooring cleats and 2 stern mooring cleats with fairleads.
  • 9kg Knox anchor with approx 50m of 6mm chain spliced to approx 50m of nylon warp. Chain leads through a stainless steel hauser guide to the chain locker below deck.
  • 11kg CQR anchor on deck mounts.
  • Small Bruce kedge anchor.
  • 6 fenders and various mooring warps.

winches

  • 2 single speed mast mounted winches.
  • 2 Harken ST10 single speed sheet winches.
  • 2 x coachroof winches.
  • 2 x winch handles.

Interior & Accommodation

Down below there is over 6’ headroom the full length of the saloon. Surprisingly roomy!

  • The fit and finish of all internal woodwork is good.
  • Eberspacher Airtronic D2 warm air central heating fitted 2010.
  • Light blue upholstery 2021.
  • 6ft + headroom!
  • Mast compression post which is incorporated into the table was replaced in 2020/21 with a lovely Mahogany birdsmouth spar.

main cabin

  • To starboard there is a quarter berth at the head of which is the navigation station. The chart table is perfectly sized for the Leisure Portfolio range of charts and there is a large shelved locker below for additional charts, pilot books, binoculars, etc.
  • Forward of the galley and nav station are full length bunks (1.93m) to port and starboard. Between them lies a drop-leaf table covered in quaint 1960’s blue Formica. The mast compression post passes through the table. Lockers above the bunks and below provide enough stowage for extended cruising.
  • The door in the forward bulkhead leads to the heads.

Galley

  • On descending the companionway, the galley is to port with astainless-steel sink with manual fresh water pump. There isstowage for cutlery, crockery, etc. behind the sink and a mug rack.
  • Gimballed Plastimo Atlantic cooker with two burners, grill and oven. There is flame-failure shut-off on the oven and a gas isolation valve to the left hand side of the cooker.
  • To right of the cooker a fold-down flap which provides extra work surface.

  • Behind the cooker there is a locker for pots and pans with another good size locker below.

Heads

  • Jabsco toilet fitted 2017.
  • Sink with manual fresh water pump and cupboard under.

  • Vanity mirror.
  • Hanging locker for wetoilies.

  • Forward is the chain locker and a reasonable amount of stowage forhold-alls, sails, and deck equipment.

Navigation Equipment

  • Standard Horizon GX2100E DSC VHF. Fitted 2012.
  • EASY-NAVTEX

  • NASA Clipper Duet Speed / Depth in cockpit. NOTE: The speed is from the pulse output of a GPS receiver, so gives speed over the ground (SOG) not speed through the water (STW).

  • NASA Target speed/log at chart table. This one gives you STW.

  • The GPS Receiver, as well as providing a pulse output for speed also has an NMEA0183 output for the DSC VHF Radio.

  • Plastimo Contest bulkhead magnetic compass.
  • Clock and barometer.

machinery & propulsion

  • Yanmar 1GM10 driving a two bladed fixed prop. The prop and shaft are encapsulated giving good protection.
  • Cruising speed of 4.5 -5.5 in calm seas.

  • The engine has done just over 1,000 hours, starts easily, burns no oil and doesn't smoke.

  • Stainless steel high rise exhaust fitted 2015.
  • Stern tube and removed and refitted and stern gland repacked in 2017.
  • The stern-tube has inboard and outboard white metal bearings withremote greaser and a conventional stuffing box. There is a flexibleshaft coupling at the gearbox end.
  • New engine mounts and engine compartment cleaned and painted 2019.
  • The diesel filter has a drain valve and a priming bulb to make filter changes easier.
  • Last engine service March 2021.

rig & sails

rig

  • Selden single spreader masthead rig and boom, fitted 1997. with twin lowers, cap shrouds and single backstay.
  • Standing rigging consisting of caps, lowers, backstay and all bottlescrews and toggles replaced 2021.
  • A removable inner forestay for a hank on storm jib.
  • Profurl twin groove roller reefing headfoil.
  • Spinnaker pole stowed on side deck. Adjustable track and uphaul.
  • New main halyard 2021, new reefing lines (3) 2021, new spinnaker halyard and topping lift 2020, new genoa sheets 2018.
  • Main halyard, kicker and reefing lines lead aft to coachroof winches via Barton rope clutches.

sails

  • Mainsail with 3 reefs, 2014. Reef 1/2 are single line reefs and the 3rd is a standard reef.
  • 2nd Mainsail from 1997.
  • 115% roller reefing jib, 2015. High clew sail giving good visibility and wave clearance.
  • 2nd 150% roller reefing Genoa, 1997.
  • Blade Jib, age unknown.
  • Storm Jib, never used in anger.
  • Spinnaker, age unknown but serviceable.

Electrical Systems

  • 1 x 12v/110amp domestic battery.
  • 1 x 12v/110amp engine battery.

  • 35amp engine alternator.
  • Photonic Universe 20W solar panel and dual output solar charge controller configured to prioritise house battery. Fitted 2018.

  • LED lighting fitted 2016.
  • New circuit breaker panel fitted 2020.
  • USB and 12v sockets fitted 2020.

Plumbing & Tankage

  • GRP water tank, approx 160L.
  • Stainless steel fuel tank approx 42L.

  • Manual pumped fresh water system to galley and heads sink with inline water filters.

  • There is a gas locker which fits a large 4.5kg Butane bottle.

Canvas work
