The Company
The Yacht Brokers, Designers and Surveyors Association (YBDSA) is the holding company for the UK’s Professional Associations;

  • The Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association (YDSA) for marine surveyors, designers and is a world-renowned organization for technical expertise.
  • The Association of Brokers & Yacht Agents (ABYA) for yacht brokers and is one of the world’s leading authorities on the sale and purchase of yachts.

The Association's worldwide network of independent specialists can be relied upon for their expert knowledge and professional integrity.
The organisation’s income is derived from membership subscriptions, provision of training and events, with a large part of our business working with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). We are authorised by the MCA to certificate vessels under 24m for commercial use under the MCA Codes of Practice and Tonnage Measurement services.

The Role
The CEO is answerable to and works for the YBDSA Management Board of Directors (‘Council’) who represent the YDSA & ABYA committees.
YBDSA has a small team of experienced personnel based at their office in Petersfield, Hampshire. The CEO will be responsible for the day to day running of this office and overseeing external consultants. The Certifying Authority department has its own committee and chairs servicing a large client base. The role requires managing all of these stakeholders and it’s imperative that the CEO is, at all times, mindful of their responsibilities to the Association’s Members, Directors, committees and, of course, staff.

The role also involves attending marine industry events and promoting the members of the Associations. You will develop and maintain partnerships with other agencies and marine organisations. You must keep up-to-date with developments in the marine industry and pass information on to members via committees and newsletters as appropriate. As a set of Associations, YBDSA organises training and networking events for our members. Working with staff, consultants and external organisations, you will oversee this process, focussing on hitting CPD goals.

The CEO will ensure the company’s legal responsibilities are maintained, such as Health and Safety, and Employers Liability insurance. You will oversee all financial activity, including drawing up and monitoring budgets in liaison with the Finance Manager and the Company Accountants/Auditors. This includes working with the various committees to raise and help resolve any financial issues which may impact upon the Associations.

The CEO will be responsible for the HR functions of the YBDSA including management support, recruitment, staff contracts, appraisals and other general HR tasks. You will help develop marketing strategies with our Digital Marketing Executive and improve our brand awareness to enable the business to grow. Working with the various committees, the role requires the organisation of regular meetings, agendas and reports, including any reports from consultants. This includes arranging the Association’s AGMs along with annual reports and the audit of Annual Accounts.

Job Details
This is a full-time position working at the Association's Petersfield office, Hampshire UK.
Salary £45,000 - £50,000 pa depending on experience.
Pension plan, private medical cover and 25 days annual leave.
