NAUTOR SWAN Nautor Swan 68

The Nautor Swan 68 is a fantastic all-round sailing yacht and a wonderful example of Nautor’s products from the 1990’s period. Designed by German Frers, they are capable as a world cruising yacht, family boat, charter vessel and race boat! DEFIANCE is a good example in only her fourth ownership from new.

Construction

RCD Status: Our understanding is that the yacht is exempt from the essential safety requirements of the Recreational Craft Directive as she was built and placed into use within the EU prior to 1998.

 

Hull, Deck & Superstructure Construction:

• Single skin of hybrid glass fibre/aramid with laminates in reinforced polyester.
• Dark blue hull with white stripes.
• Hull painted 2013, polished June 2025.
• Extended transom.
• Deck in GRP sandwich with foam core, glued and bolted to the hull.
• Laid in teak (1999). Various works and service during current ownership.
• Underwater hull antifouled June 2025.

 

Keel & Rudder:

• Keel of lead alloy and antimony.
• High tensile stainless steel keel bolts.
• Ballast weight 16,000kg.
• Spade rudder with roller bearings.
• 70” recessed steering wheel.

Machinery

Engine & Gearboxes:

• Perkins Sabre 6-cylinder turbo charged marine diesel 225 hp, output 136 kW.
• Removed and “zero houred” in 2006.

 

Maintenance & Performance:

• Engine hours: approx. 3,120 as of June 2025 (since zero hour rebuild made under former owner in 2006 when hours were also believed to be around 3,000). So approx. 6,120 in total life.
• Fuel consumption: at 1500 rpm, 8.7 knot speed, 10 litre/hour (with GORI propeller in normal setup).

 

Propulsion & Steering:

• 3-blade Gori propeller with “overdrive” function.

Electrical Systems

Voltage Systems:

• 24V DC system.

 

Battery Banks:

• Bank of 8 x service batteries in series for a total of 24V. Amp. total ca 1,000 – 2022.
• 2 x 12V battery for the main engine 110 Amp – new 2026.
• Start battery for generator – new 2026.

 

Battery Chargers:

• 1st Mastervolt Chargemaster 24/100-3 – 100A (2007) + 2nd Mastervolt Mass 24/100 automatic battery charger, both located in engine room.
• Automatic battery charger 12V for generator – 2009.
• Victron Energy Phoenix inverter 24V 3000 Amp + 1 x 600 Amp, located under chart table.
• Victron Phoenix inverter 24/3000 – 2024, located in engine room.

 

Generator:

• Westerbeke 12 kw diesel generator – 2004.
• Generator hours: approx. 6,250 hours as of June 2025.

 

Shore Power:

• Shore power 110V / 230V. Cables and plugs.
• Second inlet for 110V + transformer in aft locker.

Plumbing Systems

Fresh Water & Water Heating System:

• Hot and cold pressurised water.
• Isotemp hot water boiler 60 litres, heated by 220V immersion and/or via engine calorifier.
• Freshwater, hot and cold, shower outlet near helm.
• Seawater deck washdown with connection in anchor windlass locker.

 

Watermaker:

• Tecnicomar 300 litres/hour (first watermaker), 220V – 2011.
• Horizon Seafari Series, 80-100 litres/hour (second watermaker), 220V.

 

Bilge Pumps:

• Bilge pumps replaced in 2012.
• 1 x Electric bilge pump, 140 litres/minute with automatic switch.
• 2 x Manual Whale Titan pumps, 100 litres/minute each.

Tankage

Fuel:

• 1,424 litres in 3 x aluminium tanks (2 x 472 + 480).
• Electric pump to move diesel from the tanks.

 

Fresh Water:

• 1,650 litres in four tanks (480 + 2 x 370 + 430), filled from the deck inlet.
• Tank level indicator.

 

Grey/Blackwater Holding Tanks:

• Owner washroom has an electric pump out for the shower and a second for the sink.
• Guest cabins have one electric pump each for grey water (sink and shower).
• Manual back up pumps for all of those.
• 2 x Black water tanks, one aft and one forward, including electric pump out.

Navigation Equipment

• NMEA FFD at chart table and owner cabin.
• 6 x B&G Hercules 2000 displays on deck, plus another in owner´s cabin – 2008.
• Simrad autopilot AP 44 – NAC 3 – 2024, with new motherboard 2025.
• Digit screen at the helm station linked to the Simrad system (may display, radar, plotter, GPS).
• Windex at mast head.
• Suunto compass 135 on steering pedestal.

 

At Chart Table:

• Furuno GP-32 GPS Waas navigator.
• B&G Hercules 2000 MFD.
• Simrad VHF RS 40 25w with handheld wireless unit for exterior use – 2021.
• 2 x SCS chart plotter and Simrad radar system. Lower screen: radar and chart plotter interfaced to autopilot, with control panel. Upper screen: can connect to a laptop.
• Satellite phone Iridium with external aerial (no current contract, plug in removable unit at chart table and it may be used via a mobile phone).

Domestic Equipment

Galley:

• 2 x Front loading fridges.
• Frigobar 24V fridge in saloon, forward to starboard.
• Freezer aft of stove, 220V or via engine.
• Second smaller freezer 24V, with stainless steel door forward.
• Sanyo microwave/grill oven located above/outboard of propane stove.
• Alpes inox stove with 4 x gas burners and oven with electric grill.
• Electric Line dishwasher, aft of the galley – 2024.
• Extra drawer space to standard.
• Selection of galley cookware, tableware, glasses, and cutlery.
• Linen and towels, with vessel name on.

 

Heads/Showers:

• 4 x Tecma WC – 2009.

 

Heating & Ventilation:

• Air conditioning by Condaria, in aft cabin, captain´s cabin and both guest cabins (not saloon).
• Hella Turbo fans throughout.

 

Entertainment:

• 27” Samsung TV, Dolby surround – 2008. Connected to Simrad chart plotter.
• 4 x Radio speakers in the saloon.
• Kvh track vision M5 satellite antenna – 2009.
• Bose music system with speakers in the saloon (only operative via old DVD unit).
• 2 x Water-resistant speakers in the cockpit.

Accommodation

Summary of Accommodation:

• 4 x Cabins and 4 x heads, plus the forepeak / crew cabin with 3 beds.
• Special blonde teak interior woodwork.
• Crew covers for settee seats in saloon and navigation area.
• Roman blinds in main saloon, navigation area, galley, and aft cabin.
• It is understood that in 2010 the interior woodwork had a refit, varnish, replaced Corian in galley. Teak floors revarnished 2013.
