OWNER’S COMMENTS:

TEE GEE is a rare combination of high-performance racer and luxury blue-water cruiser. The Niels Jeppesen’s X4.9 design won “Best Full-Size Cruiser” by Cruising World 2019. TEE GEE has been further specified and upgraded for short-handed, safe performance offshore sailing with highest specification available at time of acquisition with “everything” included, plus over Euro 260,000 in bespoke enhancements and redundancies not available from X-Yachts.

Equipment supplied by X-Yachts included Axxon carbon fibre mast and boom, bowthruster, Gori folding propeller, radar, all instruments from Raymarine, 2 electrical/2 manual winches, electrical airpump for dinghy (aluminium bottom Highfield fits into transom when deflated), watermaker, washing machine, two (main/owners) air-conditioning systems, of course generator, fridge and freezer, and 400 Ah Lithium service pack. Radar and Lithium batteries retrofitted by One Palma Superyacht Services. Starlink Global Priority satellite with onboard global wifi. TEE GEE also has a factory-fitted teak deck.

Notable Upgrades and modifications from standard include:-
• A custom one-piece carbon fibre rudder and stock from Di Polli giving noticeable better steerage upwind in heavy seas, and in broaching conditions. Its deeper depth leaves the tip above the keel (so protected), additionally it has a designed breaking point where on impact a lower part of the rudder is designed to break off, leaving the boat navigable.
• Upgraded Ultramarine UA35 stainless steel anchor with anchoring bow fairlead upgraded to provide higher load bearing capacity
• AIS and radar proximity alarm system with 80db audible alarm
• 400ah Lithium service battery installation
• Custom carbon fibre bowsprit built by OnePalma Superyacht Services, tntegrated the former steel anchor cradle and enabling installation of Reckmann hydraulic furling system operated by push buttons on steering position (and remote controller). The existing pad eye and separate rope operated furler provides redundancy. The hydraulic furler enables 10 second furling / unfurling of 110m2 Code Zero (designed to allow for upwind sailing)
• Cargo net with 1:4 pulleys on hull side of port aft cabin. Enables equipment not stored in stern garage or sail locker to be securely and space-efficiently stored.
• Additional clutches added to take staysail sheets, 3rd reef and downwind “hydraulic-sails” 2:1 halyard.
• Highfield Ultralite 290 aluminum bottom with 2.5HP Suzuki. With in/out garage mounted pump dinghy is quickly inflated/deflated and tensioned (1:4 snapshackle pulley front and rear) in place in garage. Engine has storage mount in sail locker, and under-way mount at pushpit.
• Rack taking two diving bottles built under main cabin bench forward of nav station, not visible.
• Upgrades to the generator installation to raw water intake pipe; a) installed filter on pipe between impeller and heat exchanger to prevent any broken impeller parts to enter exchanger, b) optional water intake selector to inject fresh water / coolant before any long term storage.
• Hydraulic mast jack enables proper tensioning after de-masting or for tuning purposes
• Jordan Drogue Dyneema series drogue with 132 cones, chain and bridle stored in port cockpit locker.
• Quantum 2 Doppler Radar in bespoke carbon fibre gimbal installed at first spreaders for purpose of collision avoidance and thunderstorm/tropic navigation.
• Replaced all running rigging to ultra-high quality SK78 HPS PU core with Technora/Polyester cover
• Replace backstay Harken hydraulic pump to one with manometer.
• All former working sails (main, jib, stay) replaced with OneSails Filmless Taffeta performance cruising sails. Enlarger mainsail area to 82m2, simultaneously built a 3rd reef, and installed a mainsail retrieval system to facilitate packing away the sail entirely under heavy conditions.
• In addition to master cabin shower have installed shower in aft heads.
• Staysail - Not an option available at the time of purchase from X-Yachts. Facilitate through carbon fibre rods through master cabin forward bulkhead. Equipped with furler.
• Wingshaped storm-jib built to go around stay.
• Third mainsail reef and staysail enables reduction from max downwind sail area of 330m2 to about 50 (before deployment of storm sails).
• Transom door – The original actuator driven door supplied by X-Yachts’ subcontractor with inferior interior load sharing. The original transom door was rebuilt with carbon fibre stringers, replaced hinges to duplex steel, built manual emergency backup system, and installed remote control (useful when leaving at anchor and also means transom door functions as pasarelle in marina).
• Harken Flatwinder 250 electric traveller struggled with loads. Replaced to 500 kg. Electric tuning of traveller is quick and really efficient in managing gusts.

With over 20,000Nm covered aboard TEE GEE including a recently-completed Atlantic circuit, the time has come to move on to fresh projects. TEE GEE has always been very well maintained, most of the time by or with assistance of OnePalma.

MANUFACTURER’S COMMENTS:

Pure Enjoyment.

The X4⁶ is a versatile and fast family cruiser, that helps you to make the most out of every moment. Advanced hull construction, a powerful sail plan and a well proportioned cockpit, put you at the centre of an engaging sailing experience. We call this "Superior Sailing Pleasure".

Down below, Scandinavian style and craftsmanship create a place where you will always enjoy spending time. The X4⁶ exhibits quality and attention to detail, both inside and out, helping to realise its purpose as an excellent sailing yacht. This is Pure X.

Modern Hull Design & Construction.

The hull design of the X4⁶ follows the latest design philosophy, which maximises sailing performance. Designed to excel in all wind conditions, due to a generous sail plan, coupled to a high quality mast and rig, including discontinuous rod rigging as standard.

X4⁶ hulls are built with X-Yachts' advanced technology, including vacuum epoxy infusion, and incorporating X-Yachts' famous steel keel grillage to securely hold the composite lead/iron keel, in place for outstanding safety in all conditions.

Intuitive Deck Layout

The deck layout takes a combination of the features from both her siblings; a self-taking jib is standard, with sheet handled by one of the halyard winches, and a mainsheet track is recessed into the cockpit sole with an 8:1 purchase traveller control system. Mainsheets are lead up to winches, that are within easy reach of the helmsman.

Large Harken self-tailing winches are standard, and can optionally be electrified along with one of the halyard winches.

Teak Decks

Teak comes as standard in the cockpit, on the seats and the sole, and is optional on the sidedeck and coachroof top, as well as on the optional electrical operated bathing platform.

Sailplan.

A hull with powerful lines, a precision moulded composite T keel with a heavy bulb of lead giving a high degree of stability, enables the X4⁶ to sail fast and point high to the wind.

Interior Craftsmanship

The influence of clean Scandinavian design, can be seen throughout the interior. The X4⁶ is being traditional but with a modern appearance. The Danish quality craftsmanship is of a very high standard with finely crafted details, and showcases carpentry at its very best. The wooden veneer will be Nordic Oak as standard, with other options on offer.

Natural Light and Fresh Air

The toughened glass coachroof windows, flood the interior with natural light. In addition to the large flush skylights, sections of the side windows are also open-able to provide excellent ventilation. Each aft cabin has an open-able portlight in the cockpit and additionally an outboard facing opening in the coaming windows. Combined with the flush skylight, the aft cabins have optimal ventilation, which is a great benefit in warmer climates.

PRESS REVIEW:

The X46 was conceived as a fast, fun, easy-to-handle cruising yacht – and that’s exactly what she is. Her speed-to-effort ratio is probably among the best you will find in a monohull because she’s small enough to be easily handled by a couple while her race-bred design makes sure she covers the ground at an impressive rate.

She’s not an inexpensive boat and it’s easy to see why. Epoxy-infused, post-cured, cored laminates cost money. So do lead bulbs, flush seacocks, internal steel grids, high-quality joinery and accessible systems. As the saying goes, ‘you pays your money…’

It’s reassuring to know that the entire design and construction process is completed by X-Yachts in-house. And British owners will be pleased to know that the design office, headed by X-Yachts’ co-founder Niels Jeppesen, is based on the Hamble.

It’s also good to hear an owner’s thoughts about the boat he or she chose and why. Clemens once owned a sporty version of a 36ft cruiser that proved too powerful for him and his wife to handle. With the FurlerBoom and self-tacking jib he says the X46 is ‘very relaxing to sail but still with good speed and performance’.
