Southerly 38

Description

The Southerly 38 was designed by Stephen Jones, and built by Northshore boatyard. It is highly regarded as a versatile, well built, shoal drafted cruising yacht. The Southerly 38 features the highly developed Swing Keel giving the freedom to sail in almost any waters. With the keel lowered, the draft of 2.59 makes for fast, comfortable blue water cruising, at the touch of a button her draft is reduced to 0.82, allowing her to take the ground or anchor in those spots that others just can't reach.

With a fractional rig, self tacking jib and all lines led back to the cockpit, The Southerly 38 is easily handled short handed. Her twin rudders give her excellent grip upwind, and the bow and stern thrusters make close quarter maneuvering a simple task.

The 38's real party piece becomes evident when you step down below. With a large island berth aft and comfortable guest double forward, she also fits in 2 heads and a spacious saloon and galley with huge amounts of light from the deck saloon windows. She really feels like a much larger yacht. The builders have also made a clear effort to make as much storage as possible, with cupboards and drawers everywhere they have any excess space.

'Gracie Rose' is currently under her second ownership, the current owners have set her up for prolonged periods on board and distance sailing. Recent additions include increased solar power, wind generator, water maker and Hydrovane steering, all making long passages and extended off grid cruising an easy task.

Currently afloat in Falmouth, this Southerly 38 is in beautiful condition and clearly well looked after by her current and previous owners.
