Southerly 105 for sale in Kent £23,000

The Southerly 105 is a well-regarded British cruising yacht, renowned for its solid build quality, spacious accommodation and versatile lifting keel design, making it equally at home exploring shallow inland waterways as it is coastal cruising offshore.

This 1983 example has been in the ownership of the current owner for the past 23 years and, in more recent years, has been enjoyed extensively, cruising the Dutch and French canal systems, hence the mast has remained unstepped for ease of navigation. Offering comfortable liveaboard-style accommodation and practical cruising capability, she presents an excellent opportunity for someone seeking an affordable and characterful cruising yacht with a proven long-distance cruising pedigree.

The vessel was last surveyed in 2023 and is now offered for sale only due to the owner's retirement from boating. Whilst she would benefit from some cosmetic attention and general TLC, she appears fundamentally well suited to be recommissioned for further cruising adventures, whether on the inland waterways or back afloat under sail on the coast.

Accommodation :

The 1988 Southerly 105 offers a well-thought-out and practical interior, designed with cruising comfort and versatility in mind. Built with the brand’s hallmark raised saloon and centre cockpit configuration, the accommodation is both light-filled and secure, making it particularly well-suited to extended coastal or offshore passages.

Accessed via the centre cockpit, the main companionway leads down into a bright saloon, a defining feature of the Southerly range. Thanks to the elevated deck saloon design, large windows provide excellent natural light and panoramic views, creating an airy and welcoming living space. The saloon typically features a U-shaped seating area around a central table to port, which can convert into an additional double berth if required, while a settee berth is found opposite. There is ample stowage throughout, with lockers and shelving thoughtfully integrated.

Forward of the saloon lies the galley, arranged in a practical, seagoing layout. It is well-equipped for cruising, offering a gas cooker with two burners, oven and grill, stainless steel sink, and Isotherm refrigerated fridge/freezer, microwave, along with generous work surfaces and storage for provisions. Opposite the galley is the navigation station, providing a dedicated chart table and space for instruments, making passage planning and navigation convenient and sheltered.

Aft of the navigation station is the heads with a marine toilet with a basin in a vanity unit with pressurised hot and cold water and a shower tap.  Hot water is provided by a 240V immersion heater.

The forecabin provides comfortable accommodation with two single berths, and good stowage in lockers and beneath the berths. Natural light and ventilation are provided via an opening hatch and portlights.

Aft of the saloon, access leads to the owner’s cabin located beneath the cockpit. This cabin features a generous double berth, hanging locker, and additional storage, offering a more private and quieter sleeping area, ideal for extended stays aboard.

Throughout the yacht, the interior joinery is finished in warm teak, giving a classic and robust feel, while the layout maximises both usable space and comfort. With its combination of raised saloon visibility, practical layout, and solid construction, the Southerly 105 provides accommodation that remains highly regarded among cruising yachts of its era.
