Victory 40 Ketch – 1973 - £74,950

The Victory 40 hull has proven itself as a capable offshore, long-distance cruiser. The same E.G. Van de Stadt designed hull underpinning the near-identical European-built Trintella IV. With its traditional lines and stepped sheer, the Victory 40 gets admiring glances wherever she goes.
Fitted with a doghouse, the Victory 40 ‘Moonstone of Aberdour’ is ideally suited for shorthanded cruising, her current owners having sailed predominantly with just two aboard. In the current ownership since 2012, she has completed an extended Atlantic circuit including Brazil and several seasons throughout the Caribbean including as far west as Honduras, Guatemala, Belize, Mexico and extensive cruising on the east coast of the USA & up to Canada.
Moonstone has benefitted from continual re-fitting and upgrading throughout this ownership and boasts a comprehensive inventory suited for independent longer-distance cruising

Forward Cabin: twin vee berth with infill to create a double berth, storage under plus drawers and cupboards. Overhead opening deck hatch and two fixed portlights to coachroof sides. Heater outlet. Caframo Circulation fan. Fire extinguisher, 2 x 240v and 12v sockets.
Door to:
Forward heads: Nicely fitted out, light, spacious and easily cleaned with wipe-down surfaces. Dark grey counter top with inset moulded basin, H&C faucet with pressurised water supply. Separate shower fitting with mixer tap, teak grating with automatic shower pump out. Electric Lavac vacuum toilet.
Lockers above/behind basin & counter and opening portlight above. Heater outlet and extractor fan.
Opposite to starboard, double doored hanging locker with the watermaker fitted to aft bulkhead - Controls for Aquatec AC75 75 litres per hour watermaker

Saloon: with U shaped dinette arrangement to port with solid teak leaf table on the centreline (Can also be used in the cockpit) cupboards & book shelf along port side. Overhead opening deck hatch with dual blind.

Owners comments:
The voyages of ‘Moonstone of Aberdour’ 2013 to date
In May 2013 we sailed out of Falmouth UK on our way to France initially, and onwards to Brazil.
We are a husband and wife crew and our plan was to spend several years gently cruising the Atlantic until we’d had enough and then head home with no fixed time lines. Although experienced yachtsmen neither of us had made very long passages before. Our plan was to ‘warm up’ slowly with progressively longer routes ready for an Atlantic Crossing.
The voyage started in earnest when we left Douarnenez in late May 2013 to cross the Bay of Biscay direct to La Coruña Spain, arriving in three days.
We explored all the Spanish Rias whilst learning more about how we would live long-term, relying only on wind and solar plus a diesel generator and water maker.
Onwards to Portugal, Madeira and the Canary Islands, we explored them all! We then headed to the Cape Verde islands feeling very confident in ‘Moonstone of Aberdour’ and both of us, ‘the crew’, felt ready for the Atlantic crossing. The crossing turned out to be the most enjoyable passage we have ever made, downwind much of the way!
We spent the next six years living aboard as we extensively cruised the west Atlantic and the Caribbean from Brazil up to Nova Scotia in order as follows;
Brazil, French Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Granada, Carriacou, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Antigua, Montserrat, St Kitts, BVI’s, Turks and Caicos, Bahamas, USA for the first visit, Cuba, Jamaica, Bay Islands Honduras, Guatemala including the Rio Dulce, Belize, Mexico, USA again, Bahamas again, back to USA again and cruised up to Nova Scotia in Canada, back down to USA yet again, Bahamas yet again, Bermuda, Azores, the Scillies and then home to the UK.
Hurricane seasons strongly influenced our plans, hence the number of visits to the USA where we sailed the length of the country north to south both offshore and via the ICW.
We arrived home just before covid which forced a hiatus in our cruising plans but in 2022 we resumed with voyages to Spain, Ireland, IoM, Scotland, Wales, France, the Channel Islands and this year, 2026 we spent 3+ months cruising in Holland.
