OYSTER MARINE LTD Oyster 575

Oyster needs no introduction as a leading builder of beautifully crafted ocean-cruising yachts, with decades of skill and experience. They have also become well known for the Oyster World Rally to which they bring comprehensive support and organisation - reason enough to consider Oyster. The Oyster 575 is a superb example, offering exceptional comfort, capable and safe passage-making, while remaining easily managed by a couple or family crew. Purchased by her current owners with extended cruising in mind, Oyster 575, SAFIYA has benefited from a comprehensive programme of refit, refurbishment and upgrades over the past two seasons. She is now ready to drop the lines, leave the dock and set course for the horizon!

Construction

RCD Status: The yacht conforms with the essential safety requirements of Directive 94/25/EC or RCD II (2013/53/EU), as appropriate (Recreational Craft Directive), and is categorised A – “Ocean”.

Hull, Deck & Superstructure Construction:

• The hull is a composite construction and moulded using a combination of vinylester and polyester resin with the outer topside finished in Grau Beige (RAL 1019) gelcoat with cove lines and double boot top lines in white.
• Laminate material comprises a combination of E-Glass, Kevlar and carbon fibre specially designed for the yacht.
• The topside laminate incorporates a high-tech, balsa-cored, E-Glass/carbon sandwich above the waterline, for additional strength, stiffness and insulation.
• Below the waterline, the hull features a monolithic (single-skin) composite laminate, with an Aramid/Kevlar layer, reinforced with a matrix of stringers and floors. Combined with BS1088 standard marine-ply structural bulkheads, this produces a robust structure with excellent strength to weight qualities and proven longevity.
• Additional reinforcements are included in the way of the keel recess, the keel longitudinals, mast bulkhead, P-bracket, forestay and hull stringers.
• Limber holes and/or tubes are installed at appropriate points. Stringers, bulkhead-landings and floors are formed over non-structural, inert, polyurethane foam.
• Deck moulded in GRP with balsa core.
• Teak-laid decks.
• The deck edge incorporates a bulwark, which facilitates relatively flat side decks. The top of this bulwark has a clean GRP finish, giving a modern and stylish ‘rolled’ edge.
• ‘Sugar scoop’ stern design with bathing platform trimmed with teak slats and stainless steel steps with teak tread inserts fixed on the transom for access to the stern deck. This area includes a fold down stainless steel bathing/boarding ladder with oval rungs and is fitted with a lanyard and retaining pin for retrieval/stowage.
• New Coppercoat antifouling system applied.
• Additional stainless steel grab handles on transom.
• Manifold for seawater inlets to reduce through-hull fittings.

Keel & Rudder:

• High performance bulb (HPB) external lead keel.
• Fully protected skeg-hung rudder.

Machinery

Engine & Gearboxes:

• Volvo Penta D3-150 5-cylinder (12V start) common rail injection turbo-diesel engine, rated to give an operating output of 110kW (150hp) at 3,000rpm.
• Engine last services Jan 2026 and turbo replaced Sept 2025.

 

Propulsion & Steering:

• Brunton 24” (610mm) diameter 4-bladed folding Varifold propeller. Serviced Dec 2023.
• Ambassador rope cutter on shaft.
• Propspeed propeller and shaft protection.
• Sleipner SE170 (10.7hp) 250mm tunnel bow thruster with twin, counter-rotating propellers to facilitate easy manoeuvring in tight harbours and marinas, and joystick control.
• 24V DC electric power comes from dedicated thruster batteries.
• Twin cockpit steering positions that each feature a custom-designed Oyster lectern-style pedestal top with upgraded carbon fibre fascia  instrument panels, mounted on a GRP moulded base.
• Two Lewmar Y-spoke carbon fibre steering wheels.
• Whitlock Constellation cable and Mamba torque rod system.
• Emergency tiller.

Electrical Systems

Voltage Systems:

• Ship’s supply - 24V.
• 230V AC ring main with 6 double, 13A 3-pin sockets located as appropriate within the layout. Sockets are from the Vimar ‘Idea’ range with chrome ‘Classica’ surrounds.
• Three additional Vimar 220V double outlet sockets – two in galley, one in saloon.
• Saloon outboard socket upgraded to pop-up Evoline ‘port’ with three 220V sockets and two USB chargers.
• Charging docks for handheld VHF on shelf above chart table seat and torch under chart table seat.
• 12V cigar lighter type socket at chart table, including dropper.
• Shaver socket in aft heads.
• Waterproof power socket at stern for connection to passarelle lighting.
• 12V waterproof socket, including dropper (10A maximum) under starboard pedestal top.
• Upgraded USB charging sockets in all bedside lights.
• Additional USB and USB-C charge points in the cockpit.

 

Battery Banks:

• Domestic: 4 x 180Ah Mastervolt lithium-ion batteries.
• Engine start: 95Ah (800 CCA) 12V battery devoted to engine starting, and charged by the standard engine alternator.
• Generator start: 12V Gel battery with own Mastervolt charger.
• Bank of AGM 24V dedicated thruster batteries charged via the Mastervolt domestic alternator and trickle charge outlets on the Mastervolt ChargeMaster.
• All batteries are positively secured against inversion in case of a knockdown.
• Battery venting hose swan-necked.

 

Battery Chargers:

• Two Mastervolt 24V-12V Magic chargers for charging engine and generator start batteries.
• Mastervolt ChargeMaster Plus 24V/100A 2 battery charger with MasterView System control.
• Additional Mastervolt ChargeMaster 24V/100A battery charger (new 2021).
• Bowthruster battery charging is via the Mastervolt DC Magic converter/charger from the domestic battery bank.
• Emergency link.
• Safety ‘kill switch’ mounted at the steering pedestal to allow isolation of powered deck gear, in the event of an emergency.
• Mastervolt 24V/2500W MASS sine wave inverter (not to be used for heavy loads).
• Mastervolt 24V/1500W (220V) inverter for power to icemaker and VSAT.

 

Alternators:

• Twin alternators. One 12V alternator to charge the engine start batteries. The second unit is a Mastervolt 110A/24V alternator that charges the domestic batteries via a Mastervolt Alpha Pro 3-stage regulator.
• Generator:
• Onan MDKBN (220V/50Hz) 11kW generator.
• Generator hours – approx. 2,784 as of February 2024.

 

Shore Power:

• 32A dockside power cable – 3-core double insulated PVC 18m (60’) in length. Dockside end of cable fitted with 3-pin 32A plug.
• Second additional 32A shore socket and 18m lead for air conditioning loads.
• Hubbell socket in aft deck locker.
• Shore power/mooring line cover for use when moored stern-to.

 

Other Electrical:

• Hydraulic Lewmar 400-4 Commander system located in sail locker to operate mainsail furling, headsail furling, staysail furling and hydraulic outhaul function.
• Wide copper strip from chart table to lazarette and twin large ground plates as SSB earth.
• Backstay insulators.

Plumbing Systems

Fresh Water & Water Heating System:

• 73 litres (16 Imp gallons/19 US gallons) tank heated by the engine’s heat exchanger, or by thermostatically controlled 220V, 1.25kW immersion heater element powered by the generator or dockside power.
• Pressurised hot and cold freshwater system based on a high capacity water pump with pex/pbt pipework and fittings.
• Additional freshwater outlet (from yacht’s freshwater pump) in locker under starboard helm seat.
• Charcoal water filters on galley cold water supply, Quooker hot water tap, and icemaker.

Watermaker:

• Calco Seafresh watermaker, 120 lph.
• New high pressure pump 2023.
• Pickled every winter.

Bilge Pumps:

• Jabsco Utility 3000 Puppy electric bilge pump with Par Hydro air switch.
• Henderson MkV manual bilge pump (rated at 135 litres per minute) operated from within the cockpit.
• Additional Rule 3700 electric submersible bilge pump.
• Each bilge pump is fitted with a Whale type filtered strum box.

Tankage

• Monitoring of fuel and water tanks via MasterView System screen.
• Backup calibrated dipsticks and calibration chart.

Fuel:

• 1,300 litres approximately (286 Imp gallons/343 US gallons) in two GRP tanks.
• Fuel polishing system to aft tank.
• Inline fuel filter for filtering fuel from the forward tank to the aft tank – 25 micron filter, filter flow rate of 56 litres per minute, and pump flow rate of 100 litres per minute.
• Fuel tank breathers swan-necked.

Fresh Water:

• 950 litres approximately (209 Imp gallons/251 US gallons) in one GRP tank.
• Water tank breathers swan-necked.

Grey/Blackwater Holding Tanks:

• 2 x plastic tanks are installed, one for each head, plumbed for gravity discharge with the additional ability to pump out from deck.
• Tanks are fitted with electric capacity gauges.
• Showers and washbasins discharge into two sump tanks, one forward and one aft. These tanks are evacuated by a dedicated electric Whale ‘Gulper’ pump directly overboard.
• The galley sink also empties via an electric Whale ‘Gulper’ pump.
• These three pumps are each operated by Vimar rocker switches.

Navigation Equipment

• Flush-mounted SIRS Major 150mm diameter steering compass with internal lighting and stainless steel crash bar to each pedestal top.
• Echomax Active XS dual band active radar target enhancer.
• Echomax Active X transponder antenna mounted at masthead.
• Upgraded Raymarine Axiom 2 Pro hybrid touch chart plotter with built-in 50-Channel Global Positioning System (GPS) interfaced to the autopilot, at the chart table. This unit also repeats sailing instrument information. Wireless connectivity via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
• GPS antenna mounted on pushpit.
• Raymarine HD colour 4kW Radome radar.
• Raymarine Evolution automatic pilot with twin Type 2 long 24V linear drive units, Type SPX-30 course computer and p70 Autopilot control head fitted at the port pedestal. This unit is installed quite independently of the main steering system and affords a backup to that system.
• Raymarine AIS 650 Class B transceiver with dedicated GPS and VHF antennae.
• Furuno NX300 Navtex receiver with antenna.
• Windex at masthead.
• Additional upgrade of Raymarine RealVision MAX through-hull sonar.

Sailing Instruments by Raymarine:

• Raymarine i70 units, supported data views include: wind, speed, depth, tri-data and navigation integrated with the chart plotter.
• Each i70 multi-function unit is able to display: water depth, deep/shallow alarm, course, course over ground, sea temperature, current boat speed, speed over ground, average speed, trip log, total log, apparent/true wind speed and apparent/true wind direction.

Domestic Equipment

Galley:

• Quooker (3 litre capacity) boiling water tap at forward sink.
• Gimballed GN Espace OceanChef XL cooker in stainless steel with 5 burners, grill and oven, all protected by a flame failure gas cut-off device. The cooker incorporates an electronic ignition system for all functions. For additional safety an electric gas solenoid valve controls the gas flow from the bottle and is operated remotely by an illuminated rocker switch near the cooker.
• A heavy gauge fiddle rail is fitted around the top of the cooker, which incorporates a pair of adjustable clamping pan-holders.
• Harbour lock and cooker crash bar fitted.
• Outboard of the cooker, below the hull port, is a small stowage shelf with stainless steel retaining bar.

Description of layout from forwards:

Forward Double Cabin:

• Spacious double guest cabin in the bow with centreline double berth and two drawers beneath.
• Two lift-top bins in side shelving, shelved clothes locker to starboard and hanging locker to port. Vanity mirror fitted to port hanging locker door.
• Access to deck via fore hatch.

Port Forward Twin Cabin:

• Aft of the fore cabin to port with upper and lower berths. Small lockers beneath lower berth, accessed either via removable lids in the bunk top or a drop-front locker door in the berth front.
• Hull-side lockers for clothes, bedside cabinet with shelved locker, and large hanging locker with two drawers beneath.
• Vanity mirror fitted on aft bulkhead.

Shared Head/Shower & Day Head:

• The forward cabins share the large forward heads compartment to starboard, accessed direct from the fore cabin or passageway.
• Incorporating a Dometic 8699 Masterflush electric freshwater flush toilet with emergency seawater changeover and non-return valve, washbasin and separate shower stall.
• Two removable rails above shelf in shower, plus wire baskets.
• Upper locker with mirrored door and stowage beneath washbasin.
• Amtico ‘Wave Slate Black’ flooring.

Saloon:

• Timber companionway steps with two stainless steel grab handles either side of the opening provide easy access to the saloon from the cockpit, and there is a door to a wet locker under these steps.
• The saloon is extremely light and airy with seven windows, of which two of the three forward ones open. The six vertical fixed windows to the hull sides give a ‘seascape’ vista whilst at anchor.
• Featuring a rectangular table and large settee area to port, and outboard of this a pair of lockers and central shelf to the vertical hull windows. Bookshelves.
• The saloon table forms an occasional table when in its closed position, which is mounted on a very substantial pedestal incorporating a bottle locker in its base. The maple saloon table with teak inlay line extends with a hinging central infill piece (stored in the pedestal top when not in use) to form a large dining table.
• To starboard is a three-seater L-shaped settee. Outboard of this and forward is a locker and central shelf to the hull port area, customised to house the flat-screen TV on a motorised lift. Upgraded ,new, Icemaker in locker beneath the forward port inboard seating area.

Navigation Area:

• At the aft starboard end of the saloon the chart table is customised around the flush-mounted electronics and navigation equipment in a maple fascia panel, which is hinged for easy access. A stainless steel stay is fitted on the chart table lid. Provision for stowage of Admiralty-size, half-folded charts and bookshelf for navigational books and almanacs. Two drawers beneath the chart table and one below the aft starboard end of the settee.
• ‘Blue’ backlit AC/DC electrical panel located behind navigator’s seat.

Galley:

• Located to port of the cockpit, in the passageway to the aft cabin, where removable panels give access to the engine compartment.
• Work surfaces finished in Avonite with upstands. Sliding trashcan system fitted with top access via the Avonite work surface.
• Above worktop level are two tiers of upper lockers, fore and aft either side of the cooker, including a large pantry locker at the aft end, fitted with shelves and baskets, giving exceptional capacity for food storage. Inboard galley lower unit has shelved locker at the forward end, and aft of which is the washer.
• Engine access below the sink and drawer, and storage locker aft of it.
• Stowage for custom crockery and glasses, timber mug rack, and knife rack.
• Opening portlight to provide fresh air and natural daylight.
• GN Espace Gastronorm stainless steel sink with drainer, sized to take the oven baking trays. Front below sinks converted to drawer for cutlery stowage.
• Adjacent to the sink, the Avonite surface incorporates routed draining grooves.

Engine Room:

• Accessed via a door within the starboard aft cabin and via removable panels beneath the galley sinks to port. All access panels fitted with rubber sealing strips to minimise noise and secured by positive catches. Insulated with a composite of foam and high-density polymer sound absorbing materials.
• 24V lighting and a 24V extractor fan, switched at the DC electrical panel.
• Parallel plumbing for engine and generator Racors with stainless steel drip tray, and vacuum gauges. Storage baskets.

Aft Starboard Twin Guest Cabin:

• Twin cabin to starboard, aft of the saloon, with upper and lower bunk berths.
• Small locker beneath lower berth and hull-side lockers above the top berth.
• Vanity mirror above aft low-level locker.
• Locker on shower bulkhead for Racors and watermaker, extended to full-height with mirrored doors above and shelf behind. Open section above mirrors with stainless steel fiddle for stowage of wash bags, etc.

Owner’s Stateroom:

• Configured with a double berth offset from centreline and twin drawers underneath.
• Vanity unit on starboard side, with small locker below and mirror on underside.
• Large hanging locker with 4-brick digital safe and abundant drawer and locker space.
• Straight edge mirror within frame on cabin side of door to heads.
• Stainless steel bookshelves in both hull ports forward and aft of the lift-up locker.
• Access to aft en-suite/shower compartment to starboard. Port door leading to galley.

En-suite Head/Shower:

• Configured with Dometic 8600 Masterflush electric freshwater flush toilet, washbasin and separate shower stall. Wire baskets in shower cubicle.
• Locker beneath washbasin and mirrored locker above, with shaver socket.
• Featuring an opening portlight to provide fresh air and natural light.
• Amtico ‘Wave Slate Black’ flooring.

Cockpit

• Walk-through natural teak-laid cockpit.
• Engine instrument panel fitted into recess with protective acrylic cover.
• Twin cockpit steering positions. Each helm seat has an upholstered backrest, fitted to a strong stainless steel frame. Under each helm seat is a locker with hinged GRP lid.
• Between the two helm seats a central walkway and steps aft allow easy access into and out of the cockpit, to and from the yacht’s stern deck.
• Instrument repeaters are installed on a dark acrylic panel mounted on a GRP console integral to the companionway hatch garage.
• Stainless steel double drinks holders to pedestals and at each side of companionway.
• Pair of waterproof stereo speakers.
• Gloss varnished, teak-topped cockpit table with stainless steel frame, folding leaves, and insulated GRP box, refrigerated via a Frigomatic 24V keel-cooled refrigeration unit.
• ‘Sandstone’ acrylic cockpit table cover with Velcro flaps for cool box, leather corners and pocket with mesh drainage.

Deck Access

• Midship gateway stanchions with stainless steel hinged boarding ladders, which close up to form the side-gates. Stainless steel threshold plates at side gates and stern gate.
• Gate to pushpit.
• Stainless steel hinged ladder on stern bathing platform with oval treads.
• Multiplex 3.2m folding carbon passarelle painted in ‘RAL 1019’ with teak surface, black stowage bag, stanchions, brace lines and spreader hanging system. Passarelle halyard doubles up as spare main halyard and includes clutch on mast.
• Cool white LED lighting in passarelle to top surface.
• Passarelle socket in top transom/step rung, plus additional socket in bulwark stainless steel tread plate.

Deck Equipment

Rig:

• Cutter rig with all associated hardware and fittings.
• Formula Masts Stoway two-spreader ‘White’ painted mast and boom, with hydraulic in-mast furling. Hydraulic reversing outhaul cylinder in boom with manual bypass valve.
• Preventer lines.
• Navtec 2-function remote control panel in cockpit for manually operated hydraulic backstay and vang system.
• Upgraded Running rigging upgraded to custom colours/Maffioli ropes, including additional 2 x 20m and 2 x 15m mooring lines with 300mm eye and black protection.
• Jumper strut to support upper mast.
